PRODUCT INFORMATION
Meets ASTM C1273 Tensile Testing Ceramic Materials. This grip is specifically designed to be used to determine tensile strength of ceramic materials, as specified by ASTM C1273. Due to the brittle nature of ceramics, extreme care must be taken to ensure that the test specimen does not crack prior to the test. The test fixtures that put uneven pressure on the ceramic test specimen tend to crack that test specimen, nullifying the test. (American Society for Testing and Materials [ASTM], 2005) ASTM allows for a wide variety of test fixtures to be used to tensile testing ceramics. For cylindrical test specimens, TestResources suggest using the gripping GC1273-835. This fixture is an active type fixture that uses friction to hold the test specimen in the grip. This method of gripping provides an even pressure to the test specimen to reduce the chance of cracking. Contact an application engineer to configure a solution to your application requirements.
