G243-D638 meets ASTM D638 requirements for tensile testing which describes the grips used for holding the test specimen between a movable and fixed member of a testing machine. The dumbbell-shaped plastic specimens are loaded into a gripping fixture. The specimen is positioned so the long axis is aligned with the line of pull from the grips. A tensile test is conducted and the resulting tensile strength and maximum load are analyzed. The grips are made from precisely machined, high strength tool steel.
