Syringes & Needles

Medical needles and syringes are mechanically tested to ensure that the forces needed to move the plunger and eject fluid from the barrel are not too high and not too low. Actual forces depend on device materials, liquid viscosity, radiation processes used for sterilization, and instrument design. If you are injecting fluid into tissue, the host tissue can be a factor influencing device performance.
TestResources needle and syringe fixtures are designed to meet application requirements. In compression test applications, the lower fixture is typically designed to hold the barrel and the upper unit ejects fluid from the barrel.
Syringe fixtures are capable of determining break-away force, or force required to start the plunger moving. Glide force is a friction test of the plunger as it moves through the shaft. All of our fixtures are designed for use in TestResources universal test machines. If you want to use the fixtures in your test machine, we offer adapters for virtually all test machine manufacturers.
There are multiple types of tests common to needle and syringe test applications, including tensile tests to inspire fluid into the barrel. Horizontal tests help by accurately simulating the position of the syringes in actual use.
