ASTM A391 is specifically oriented to Grade 80 alloy steel chain for applications that include slings, lifting assemblies, and load binding. ASTM A391 requires alloy steel chain in this test to be made to a fully-killed fine austenitic grain process. To meet this standard the weld on the chain must be electrically welded or through a gas welding process. To meet the standards set by ASTM A391, the steel chain must meet the material property requirements for breaking force and elongation. ASTM A391 also requires the steel chain to be the correct dimensions for the appropriate size chain. ASTM A391 requires the chains to also be tested to at least proof load.
Recommended Test Machine
Force range of 5 kN to 600 kN (1,125 lbf to 135,000 lbf)
Adjustable test space
The most popular choice for static tension and compression tests
These dual column testers are available in both tabletop and floor standing models
Force range of 300 kN to 2,000 kN (67,500 lbf to 450,000 lbf)
The best choice for performing static tension and/or compression applications when force capacities of 300 kN (67,000 lbf) or more are needed
