ASTM A973 is oriented to Grade 100 alloy steel chain for applications that include slings, lifting assemblies, and load binding. ASTM A973 requires alloy steel chain in this test to be made to a fully-killed fine austenitic grain process. To meet this standard the weld on the chain must be electrically welded or welded through a gas welding process. To meet the standards set by ASTM A973, the steel chain must meet the material property requirements for proof load, breaking force, and elongation. ASTM also requires the steel chain to be the correct dimensions for the appropriate size chain.
