ASTM C 1359 (C-1359) specifies the standard test method for determining the tensile strength and strain behavior of continuous fiber-reinforced advanced ceramics, under monotonic uniaxial loading, at elevated temperatures. ASTM C1359 specifically addresses the testing of solid rectangular cross-section specimens. Specimen geometry is not specified within the standard; instead it is determined by the end use of the of the tensile strength data and end use of the ceramic product. The standard allows gripping of the specimen by face loading for active grip interfaces and face loading or combination pin and face loading for passive grip interfaces.
