The ASTM D6416 standard defines the flexural testing of sandwich composite plates subjected to a distributed load. This material is commonly used in marine hulls and the distributed loading case is more realistic than point loading. The properties obtained from this testing include the panel face-sheet strain, bending stiffness, shear stiffness, panel strength and panel failure modes. In the test a water filled bladder applies the distributed load. Both inch-pound units and SI units are considered the standard.
