ASTM D6873 specifies the standard test method for the bearing fatigue response of polymer matrix composite laminates. ASTM D6873 measures the effect of cyclic loading on composite laminates joined with mechanical fasteners. At times throughout the test, loading is is halted to measure the elongation of the fastener holes in the composite test specimen. Ultimately the test is run until failure of the composite specimen occurs by fracture, rupture, or a predetermined loss of dynamic stiffness. ASTM D6873 is the fatigue testing supplement to ASTM D5961 for testing the bearing response of polymer matrix composite laminates.
