ASTM D7617 is the standard test method for testing the tranverse shear strength of of fiber reinforced polymer matrix composite bars and rods. The composite rod or bar specimen is tested in double shear, at a constant crosshead displacement, until the specimen fails. Failure must occur by cleavage of the composite specimen into three pieces or two pieces with the non-cleaved shear plane highly damaged. While testing, failure is indicated by the formation of a failure face at both shear planes, or until one failure face forms and the force drops to 70% of the peak load.
By means of our composite testing expertise and modular product design, we will help find the solution that is right for you. Give our test engineers a call today for help configuring the best test machine and accessories according to ASTM D7617.
