ASTM F1264 provides specification of the design and mechanical properties associated with an Intramedullary Fixation Device (IMFD). An IMFD is a metal splint that is inserted inside of the bone into the medullary cavity, and held in place by locking screws. The standard specifies four specific testing methods for the IMFD including: static four-point bending, static torsion, bending fatigue for the IMFD, and bending fatigue for the locking screws.
