Spinal implants are designed to promote arthrodesis at a given spinal motion segment. ASTM F2077 specifies a variety of static and dynamic tests that are used to compare the mechanical properties of different intervertebral body fusion device assemblies.

ASTM F2077

Intervertebral body fusion device assemblies are commonly used to support the anterior column of the spine after disc degenerations. ASTM F2077 is used to characterize and evaluate the mechanical performance of the device when fused with the body. These tests are conducted in vitro to allow for performance analysis of the complex loading commonly seen with in vivo. Even though these tests are not able to directly predict in vivo performance, they can be used to compare the performance of different spinal fixation devices.

Intervertebral disc replacement technique is an optional approach to the more widely used spinal fusion technique. Depending on the design, material and method of attachment, some additional testing may be recommended. Some of the testing methods include ASTM F2267 for Measuring Load Induced Subsidence of Intervertebral Body Fusion Device Under Static Axial Compression.

We offer multiple standard products as well as custom solutions. Give our application engineers a call today to design a fixture that meets your test specifications and ASTM F2077 requirements.

Our engineers are familiar with ASTM F2077 and can help guide you through the testing process, but we recommend you read the entire specification of the official ASTM standard to achieve the best results.
