ISO 7206-4 Fatigue Compression Tensile Bending Hip Implants
ISO 7206-4 specifies a test method for determining the endurance properties of stemmed femoral components of total hip joint prostheses and stemmed femoral components used alone in partial hip joint. It also defines the testing conditions so that the important parameters that affect the components are taken into account, and describes how the specimen is set up for testing.
Testing procedure
In this test, compressive, tensile, and bending forces are applied through the femoral head. Testing conditions and setup requirements are defined to allow for thorough testing results that are valid predictions for in vivo performance. The value of the endurance limit test forces and the corresponding number of load cycles are specified.
ISO 7206-6 Fatigue Endurance Hip Joint Implant Test Equipment
ISO 7206-6 specifies a test method for determining the endurance properties of stemmed femoral components of total hip joint prostheses and stemmed femoral components used in partial hip joints. It specifies the principle, the reagents and materials, the apparatus, the procedure, the test report and the disposal of test specimens.
Testing procedure
Fatigue is examined at the neck of the implants and stemmed femoral components used alone in partial hip joints under specified laboratory conditions. It also defines the conditions of testing so that the important parameters that affect the components are taken into account, and describes how the specimen is set up for testing. Furthermore, ISO 7206-4:2010 specifies the test parameters and the requirements for the endurance limit of stemmed femoral components tested in accordance with this document. The value of the endurance limit test forces and the corresponding number of load cycles are specified.
ISO 7206-8 Medical Implant Fatigue Test - Hip joint prostheses Torsion
ISO 7206-8 specifies the endurance performance of stemmed femoral components of total hip joint prostheses and stemmed femoral components used alone in partial hip joint replacements as determined by a method that includes the application of torsion.
This specification does not apply to special cases for which the center-line of the stem does not lie in any plane in which the axis of the neck lies. When a hip implant is in the body it will undergo torsional loads when a patient twists or turns on their foot, or bending due to the load during walking. To ensure long term performance without failure, the femoral stem of the prostheses must be tested in torsion. ISO 7206-8 defines the torsion endurance performance of the femoral stem that is required. Test conditions and setup for torsion testing the femoral stem are outlined in ISO 7206-4.
ISO 7206-9 Torque Stemmed Hip Implants Test Equipment
ISO 7206-9 determines the resistance to torque of head fixation of stemmed femoral components of total hip joint prostheses and stemmed femoral components used alone in partial hip joint replacements.
ISO 7206-10 Static Test Hip Implant
ISO 7206-10 specifies a test method for total and partial hip joint prostheses to determine the resistance to static load of femoral heads of modular construction. It applies to components made of metallic and non-metallic materials.
