ISO 14801 Dental Implant Holder

Dental implant fatigue test equipment is used to test titanium implants that are attached in, on, or through the mandible as a support for a prosthetic tooth. Dental implant fatigue testers enable testing of all three types of dental implants, including endosseous (placed on the bone), subperiosteal (lays on top of the bone), and transosteal (passes through the bone). These dental implants support bridges, crowns, dentures, and act as an anchor for orthodontic tooth movement. TestResources offers fatigue testing machines with special dental test fixtures to test the following fatigue properties of dental implants according to ISO 14801 and FDA requirements. Fatigue and static tests of dental implants are required to validate implant design performance. They provide mechanical stimulation to the underlying bone and gum structures to promote healthy tissue growth around the implant. Dynamic fatigue testing of dental implants determine fatigue strength and behavior of these medical implants and devices.

Custom fixtures clamp the dental implant in the correct angular orientation to remove any lateral constraints. Dental Implants are fatigue tested to compare endurance limits (highest fatigue loads the implant systems can withstand without failure) as implant systems use “worst-case scenario” with custom 30-degree angled abutments. Mechanical fatigue tests are needed to determine the durability of a dental implant and its components when subjected to chewing forces and occlusal loads in the applications they face. The frequency and types of mechanical complications are different for each dental implant system. Researchers have developed special mouth motion step stress accelerated life tests that are commonly used to qualify material and implant fatigue life estimates. These dynamic tests operate at speeds up to 15 hz and require our 800L family of test machines. FDA Guidance Document establishing requirements for dental implant fatigue test equipment Dental Implant Tests There are four different mechanical tests required for dental implant fatigue tests. Compression tests compress the dental implant longitudinally until it ruptures. Fatigue tests simulate the functional load on the dental implant over a wider time spectrum and/or test rate.

Flexural tests measure the maximum strength of the dental implant. Torque tests determines the torque necessary to strip the head of the dental implant. Dental implant fatigue test equipment is configured by our dental industry applications engineer. The model 800L & 840 Series test dental fatigue machines and fixtures test for compression and axial fatigue to determine variations in material, geometry, surface condition, and stress, flexural bend tests to measure flexure strength, flexure stiffness, flexural modulus and tensile tests to determine resistance of materials vs. pulling/stretching. In addition, dental implants are tested with model 311 Series universal test machines in tensile testing (resistance of materials vs. pulling/stretching), flexural testing (flexure strength, flexure stiffness, flexural modulus), and compression testing (force, speed, stroke, travel requirements).160 Series static torsion testers measure torsional strength, stiffness, and stress strain properties of implants.
