90 Degree Peel Test

Peel testing typically involves several variables which must be managed in order to ensure consistent and repeatable tests. Those variables include angle of the peel, rate of the pull, pressure with which the adherands are pushed together, and the surface characteristics of the adherands. ASTM D6252 is a common test method to measure the peel adhesion of pressure-sensitive label stocks. ASTM D6252 uses a standardized 90 degree peel technique by peeling a 1 inch wide strip label material off of a stainless steel plate at 12 inches per minute. It requires a sliding 90 degree peel table, which is pulled with a cable assembly to ensure the 90 degree peel angle is maintained throughout the length of the peel. TestResources provides sliding peel tables, designed to be integrated into any of our peel test machines. ASTM D6252 also prescribes how pressure is applied to adhere the label to the base surface. It defines a weighed roller for this purpose. TestResources also provides weighted peel rollers and cutting tools for peel testing in accordance with this standard. TestResources universal material testing machines are effectively used for determining the peel adhesion, peel strength, bonding strength, and sheer properties of adhesives, labels and tape. TestResources test machines feature constant-rate-of-extension and constant-rate-of-load control which are essential to ensure high data quality. This allows the machines to be programmed to perform many unique testing procedures. Load cells are fitted to specific load applications to ensure the highest resolution of tests.
