The tensile properties of yarns may be determined using the single strand method specified in ASTM D2256. To determine tensile strength and elongation at break, specimens are clamped in the appropriate grips and extended at constant rate until failure occurs. The test results can be used to determine the breaking tenacity, modulus, and breaking toughness of the material. This test method can be performed on wet or oven-dried specimens, as well as, specimens at either high or low temperatures.
